Bringing The Kingdom
In the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples (known as the Lord’s Prayer), he encouraged them to pray, “Let your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” In heaven, everything is the way that God intends for it to be. He’s in charge. He runs the show.
The Fall
Here on earth, it’s not that way, is it? Relationships are broken—between individuals, between groups, and even between nations. Too often hate rules the day as each of us puts our own needs ahead of everyone else’s. When you look at some of the horrible things going on in the world today, you have to wonder how a human being could possibly do such things.
Jesus came to restore humanity and call us back to what it really means to be made in God’s image—to live as God’s stewards, caring for each other and for the world God created. Jesus came to say, “God’s kingdom isn’t as far away as you think. It’s right here, right now. All you have to do is live in it!”
You're Invited
So we choose to live in God’s kingdom today. It’s a kingdom where the the poor are cared for and the sick are comforted. It’s a place where the orphan finds a family and everyone finds a friend. It’s a feast where everyone is invited and the celebration lasts forever.
All of the things we do to impact our community and impact our world are aimed at this goal—to bring God’s kingdom to earth today. Right here. Right now.
